A woman that lost her husband after he had heart valve replacement surgery in which Trasylol was used, has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer. The Trasylol lawsuit filed against Bayer is asking for $80 Million in damages. Joseph Randone suffered through leg amputation surgery and was on a ventilator for 8 months following his surgery. His kidneys failed and his surgeon blames the Trasylol.
Dr. Todd Rosengart, Randone's surgeon and Stony Brook's chief of cardiothoracic surgery, filed a report with the FDA and stopped administering Trasylol."I haven't used it on any patients since," he said.
Bayer commented that they are prepared to fight the lawsuits that have been filed against them. Trasylol was pulled from the market by the Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA) earlier this month.
